Various ritual activities associated with the construction of\u003c\/p\u003e   \u003cp\u003ethe stupa are described along with the eight fundamental types of\u003c\/p\u003e   \u003cp\u003eTibeto-Buddhist stupas and their main structural components. A survey of\u003c\/p\u003e   \u003cp\u003ethe stupas found in the upper Indus Valley in the Leh region of Ladakh\u003c\/p\u003e   \u003cp\u003eshows their similarity to the Tibeto-Buddhist tradition. The value of the\u003c\/p\u003e   \u003cp\u003ebook is enhanced by an appendix with English translation of four important\u003c\/p\u003e   \u003cp\u003eTibetan texts preceded by transliteration.\u003c\/p\u003e    \u003cp\u003eThis monograph is the first in the new sub-series of the IGNCA on the\u003c\/p\u003e   \u003cp\u003eBuddhist stupas, which would not be restricted to India alone.
