ABOUT THE BOOK
Crafting Indian Scripts is a beautifully designed book that explores the rich aesthetics of India’s regional scripts through the lens of calligraphy and craft. It showcases over a hundred handcrafted collector-pieces, blending traditional scripts with textile, paper, and craft art. The book grew out of the Akshara project, which united 58 craft-producer groups across India to experiment with writing as design. It highlights how calligraphy and lettering can be both a craft and a means of preserving linguistic heritage. The visual presentation is deeply rooted in India’s cultural diversity, featuring pieces in multiple vernacular scripts, each rendered as art.
