ABOUT THE BOOK

This scholarly work by Justice M. Rama Jois, a renowned jurist and former Chief Justice, presents a comprehensive study of India’s ancient legal and judicial traditions.

The book explores how law, justice, and governance were conceptualized and practiced in ancient India, long before the advent of British legal institutions. Drawing from sources like the Vedas, Smritis, Arthashastra, and Dharmashastra, it illustrates how India possessed a highly evolved, ethical, and codified system of justice.

Justice Rama Jois also connects ancient legal thought to the modern Indian Constitution, showing how principles like rule of law, equality, and justice have deep roots in India’s civilizational past.
