ABOUT THE BOOK

Prophet Muhammad: The Role Model (originally titled Khutbat-e-Madras) is a landmark of Islamic literature based on eight lectures delivered by Syed Sulaiman Nadwi in October 1925 at the invitation of the Muslim Educational Association of Southern India in Madras.

The book is celebrated for its unique thematic approach. Instead of a traditional chronological biography (Seerah), Nadwi analyzes the life of the Prophet through a logical and historical lens, arguing that for a person to be a universal role model, their life must fulfill four criteria: Historical Authenticity, Completeness, Comprehensiveness, and Practicality. Each lecture tackles a specific dimension, such as the Prophet as a teacher, a statesman, a family man, and a spiritual guide.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Syed Sulaiman Nadwi (1884–1953) was one of the most prominent Indian Muslim scholars, historians, and linguists of the 20th century. A disciple of the great Shibli Nomani, he completed the monumental work Sirat-un-Nabi after his mentor's death. Nadwi was a founding member of the Shibli Academy (Darul Musannefin) and played a pivotal role in the intellectual and political life of the Indian subcontinent. His scholarship is noted for being rigorous, moderate, and deeply rooted in primary sources while remaining engaged with modern critiques.
