ABOUT THE BOOK
Selected Essays of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi is a curated collection of writings by one of the most influential and provocative Islamic scholars of the modern era. Ghamidi’s work is characterized by a "purist" approach to the Quran, often challenging centuries of traditionalist interpretations by applying rigorous linguistic and structural analysis to the scripture.
The essays cover a wide spectrum of topics, including Islamic law (Sharia), the concept of the Islamic state, gender roles, the philosophy of Jihad, and the relationship between reason and revelation. Ghamidi is known for his "Farahi" school of thought, which emphasizes the coherence (Nazm) of the Quran as the primary key to its interpretation.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Javed Ahmad Ghamidi (born 1951) is a Pakistani theologian and scholar who founded the Al-Mawrid Institute of Islamic Sciences. A former student of the legendary Amin Ahsan Islahi, Ghamidi has spent his life advocating for a version of Islam that is compatible with modern democratic values, individual liberty, and rationalism. Due to his reformist views, he has lived in self-imposed exile for much of the last decade, yet he remains a dominant voice in global Islamic discourse through his television appearances and digital platforms.
