ABOUT THE BOOK
Sri Ujjvala-Nilamani (The Radiant Sapphire) is a monumental work of Sanskrit poetics and theology written by Srila Rupa Gosvami. It is considered the "magnum opus" of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, specifically dealing with the most esoteric and elevated aspect of divine love: Madhurya Rasa (the conjugal relationship between Radha and Krishna).
While Rupa Gosvami’s previous work, Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, outlined the general science of devotion, Ujjvala-Nilamani focuses exclusively on the highest peak of that devotion. The title itself suggests that this specific "Rasa" (mellow) is like a brilliant sapphire that outshines all other spiritual emotions.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rupa Gosvami (1489–1564) was one of the foremost disciples of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and the leader of the Six Gosvamis of Vrindavan.
The Architect of Bhakti: He was tasked with excavating the lost holy places of Vrindavan and codifying the theology of "Rasa-shastra."
Poet-Philosopher: He used the tools of classical Sanskrit aesthetics (derived from Bharata Muni’s Natya Shastra) to explain spiritual ecstasies, transforming secular drama theory into a vehicle for divine realization.
