ABOUT THE BOOK
The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times is a seminal work of Traditionalist philosophy that critiques the modern world’s obsession with materialism and measurement. Guénon argues that humanity has shifted from a "qualitative" existence rooted in spiritual essence to a "quantitative" one dominated by mass production, statistics, and physical substance. He interprets this shift as a sign of the final stages of the Kali Yuga, where traditional values are inverted and spiritual truths are obscured. The book provides a metaphysical analysis of modern science, industry, and social decay, warning of an impending "dissolution" of the current world cycle. It remains a foundational text for those seeking to understand the esoteric critique of modernity.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
René Guénon (1886–1948), also known as Sheikh 'Abd al-Wahid Yahya, was a French intellectual and the founding figure of the Traditionalist School. Initially involved in the occult circles of Paris, he eventually rejected them in favor of "Primordial Tradition," which he believed was the common source of all authentic religions. He was deeply influenced by Advaita Vedanta and later moved to Cairo, where he embraced Sufism and lived as a devout Muslim until his death. Guénon’s work is characterized by a rigorous, uncompromising defense of ancient metaphysics against the perceived "deviations" of the modern West. His influence extends from religious studies and philosophy to literature and traditional arts.
