ABOUT THE BOOK
Vaishnavism & Nama-Bhajan is a concise yet profound exposition on the heart of Gaudiya Vaishnava philosophy—the supremacy of pure devotion (suddha-bhakti) and the central practice of chanting the Holy Name. The text explores the theological foundation of Vaishnavism while powerfully emphasizing Nama-bhajan as the yuga-dharma, the essential and most effective spiritual practice for the present age. It effectively addresses misconceptions about bhakti, explaining that authentic devotion is a transcendental process free from mundane ritualism, karma, or mental speculation. Originally compiled from influential essays published in journals like Sajjana Tosani and Gaudiya, this work serves as an essential manual for sincere seekers aiming to understand the "religion of love" directly from its foremost modern architects.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
This book features the combined wisdom of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur and his son, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, two of the most authoritative figures in the modern Gaudiya tradition. Bhaktivinoda Thakur (1838–1914) was a brilliant magistrate and prolific scholar who wrote over 100 books to revitalize Vaishnavism and introduced its teachings to the Western world. Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati (1874–1937), known as the "Simha Guru" (Lion Guru), was a revolutionary preacher and founder of the Gaudiya Math who emphasized a rigorous, scientific approach to spiritual life. Together, they bridged the gap between ancient Vedic wisdom and the modern intellectual mind, creating a global spiritual legacy. Their uncompromising stance on the purity of the Holy Name paved the way for the global expansion of the Hare Krishna movement.
