ABOUT THE BOOK
Visnusahasranama by Swami Dayananda Saraswati is an exhaustive, word-by-word commentary on the "Thousand Names of Vishnu" found in the Anushasana Parva of the Mahabharata. While many commentaries focus purely on devotion (Bhakti), Swami Dayananda approaches the text through the lens of Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism).
He treats each name not just as a label for a deity, but as a definition of Brahman (the Ultimate Reality). The book is highly regarded for its linguistic precision, drawing deeply from Paninian grammar to explain the root meanings of each Sanskrit name, and then elevating those meanings to profound philosophical truths.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Swami Dayananda Saraswati (1930–2015) was a world-renowned teacher of Vedanta and the founder of the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam. He was a student of Swami Chinmayananda and later Swami Pranavananda. Known for his "traditional yet contemporary" teaching style, he had a unique ability to communicate the complex vision of the Upanishads in plain, logical English. He was instrumental in establishing the Acharya lineage for a new generation of global students.
