ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Heinrich Dumoulin (1905-1995) was a German Jesuit priest and scholar who specialized in the study of Zen Buddhism. He spent many years in Japan, where he immersed himself in Zen practice and research. Dumoulin is best known for his comprehensive two-volume work, "Zen Buddhism: A History," which is considered a classic in the field. His scholarly contributions have helped bridge the gap between Eastern and Western understanding of Zen Buddhism.
HEINRICH DUMOULIN (1905-1995) was one of the world's foremost Zen scholars. He was for many years a professor of philosophy and the history of religion at Sophia University in Tokyo. He wrote numerous books and articles about Asian religions and Zen Buddhism in particular.
