Agroforestry has a long history worldwide, but it was only in the late 1970s that scientific research on tree-crop interactions in India began. The All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Agroforestry, established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in 1983, provided significant support and momentum for the field. Today, the AICRP on Agroforestry has a nationwide network. Through the efforts of State Agricultural Universities and the AICRP, location-specific agroforestry systems have been recommended for different agro-climatic zones, landholdings, and economic conditions in the region. Despite extensive research having been conducted, it has not been widely accessible to the scientific community, farming communities, students, and readers. To address this, the authors have compiled information on agroforestry systems and practices in India into a single manuscript. The book is divided into four main sections: i) Agroforestry in India, ii) Agroforestry systems and practices in North, West, and Central India, iii) Agroforestry systems and practices in East, North-East, and Southern India, and iv) Allied topics related to Agroforestry. The first section covers agroforestry experiences, research, and extension efforts over the past 25 years in India. The second section includes 13 topics, while the third covers 14 topics that discuss agroforestry research in relation to the agroclimatic zones of different states in India. The last section contains 8 topics on topics such as the role of agroforestry in soil conservation, women's development, agroforestry management, modeling, rehabilitation of mine spoils, and agroforestry tree species breeding.
