ABOUT THE BOOK
Ayurved and Hepatic Disorders, compiled and edited by the internationally celebrated Ayurvedic physician and academic Prof. Dr. P.H. Kulkarni, is a highly technical, multi-disciplinary research compendium. Published by Sri Satguru Publications as part of its Indian Medical Science Series, this clinical volume compiles insightful research papers and case studies presented during a landmark international seminar dedicated exclusively to the study of liver diseases through alternative and integrated frameworks.
The primary objective of the volume is to thoroughly analyze disorders of the liver—known in classical Sanskrit texts as Yakrut—by cross-referencing ancient diagnostic methodologies with modern hepatology parameters. In Ayurveda, the liver is recognized as the root organ of the circulatory system (Raktavaha Srotas) and the primary seat of Ranjaka Pitta (the metabolic fire responsible for blood formation). The book contains over 40 technical papers exploring diverse clinical vectors:
- Diagnostic Syntheses: Explores the clinical interpretation of modern Liver Function Tests (LFTs) and advanced abdominal imaging through an Ayurvedic diagnostic lens, mapping biochemical fluctuations onto Dosha imbalances.
- Management of Hepatitis (Kamala): Evaluates traditional therapeutic strategies for handling Viral Hepatitis A, B, and C. It features focused papers on highly effective classical herbo-mineral preparations such as Arogyavardhini Vati, Phalatrikadi Kwath, Vasadi Kashayam, and Shankhabhasma Vati.
- Advanced Pathology Frameworks: Deep-dives into the clinical management of severe, complex hepatic complications, including early-stage Hepatic Cirrhosis, obstructive jaundice (Rudhapath Kamala), and hepatic coma.
- Panchakarma Interventions: Outlines precise, highly monitored detoxification protocols—specifically targeted Virechana (therapeutic purgation)—to clear accumulated metabolic toxins (Ama) and bile stagnation out of the gastrointestinal tract.
- Integrative Overviews: True to Dr. Kulkarni's open-science worldview, the book gracefully includes comparative paradigms, providing short chapters on the management of liver health via Siddha medicine, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, and the impact of systemic antioxidants like Garlic.
By providing detailed patient charts, standardization methods for hepatic formulations, and human clinical trials, this book serves as an advanced, evidence-based masterclass text for Ayurvedic postgraduates, modern researchers, and integrative gastroenterologists.
