ABOUT THE BOOK

Concise Encyclopaedia of World History is an expansive, single-volume reference work designed to give students, professors, and history buffs a comprehensive guide to global political formations from prehistory to the modern era. Published in 2007 by Atlantic Publishers & Distributors, this nearly 1,000-page volume condenses vast historical timelines into a highly organized, accessible layout.

The encyclopedia sets itself apart by refusing to focus solely on major Western empires. Instead, it tracks the macro-history of humanity through a variety of unique lenses:

  • Linguistic Lineages: Reaching into prehistory by analyzing the origins and spread of major language families spoken today.
  • Nomadic Movements: Highlighting the profound impact that nomadic ethnic groups had on the destruction, creation, and shaping of settled civilizations and states.
  • Comprehensive Chronologies: Featuring extensive, commentated world-historical timelines alongside specialized political chronologies for ancient civilizations and regions.
  • Modern State Statistics: Offering concise summaries of contemporary independent nations, including geopolitical data and their recognized UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The work is equipped with a heavily cross-referenced index, making it easy to track provinces, cities, and ancient territories that do not have their own standalone entries but played critical roles within larger empires.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Dr. Carlos Ramirez-Faria (b. 1936) is an international scholar, historian, and economist originally from Venezuela.
