ABOUT THE BOOK

Form of Beauty is a breathtaking visual anthology showcasing the life’s work of B.G. Sharma, one of India’s most celebrated masters of traditional painting. The book is a journey through the "Lila" (divine play) of Hindu deities, primarily focusing on the exquisite forms of Radha and Krishna.

Sharma’s style is a unique synthesis of various classical Indian schools, including Kangra, Kishangarh, and Mughal traditions. The book highlights his mastery of the "miniature" technique—characterized by incredibly fine brushwork, vibrant natural pigments, and an ethereal, romantic atmosphere. Each plate in the book is more than just art; it is an act of visual devotion (Bhakti), capturing the delicate emotions, ornate costumes, and lush landscapes of spiritual Vraja. It remains a definitive reference for students of Indian art and devotees alike.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bannalal Govind Sharma (1924–2008), globally known as B.G. Sharma, was a visionary artist from Rajasthan who played a pivotal role in the 20th-century revival of traditional Indian art. Born in Nathdwara, the heart of the Pushtimarg tradition, he was immersed in the world of Pichwai paintings from childhood.

Sharma gained international fame for his ability to modernize traditional techniques without losing their spiritual soul. His art has been collected by world leaders and displayed in prestigious galleries globally. He also founded the B.G. Sharma Art Gallery in Udaipur to preserve the heritage of Rajasthani art. His legacy lives on through his "Sharma Style," which continues to influence contemporary devotional art and calendar illustrations across India.
