ABOUT THE BOOK
Mystic Experiences is a profound collection of philosophical parables and spiritual allegories drawn from the Yoga Vasishtha, one of the most significant texts of Vedantic literature. Compiled and explained by the eminent scholar Bhagwan Das, the book presents the core of Advaita Vedanta and Yoga through a series of "tales within tales." The original Yoga Vasishtha records the teachings given by Sage Vasishtha to a young, disillusioned Prince Rama. Bhagwan Das distills these complex teachings into digestible narratives that explore the illusory nature of the world (Maya), the vastness of the mind, and the path to ultimate liberation (Moksha).
The book focuses on the "mystic" aspect of Indian philosophy—specifically the idea that the universe is a creation of the mind. Through stories like that of Queen Chudala or the wandering of King Lavana, Das illustrates how time, space, and causality are relative constructs. The "Yoga" mentioned here is not merely physical postures but Jnana Yoga (the path of knowledge) and the psychological discipline required to perceive the "Absolute Reality" behind the veil of appearances. This work is highly valued for its ability to take dense, abstract metaphysical concepts and ground them in vivid, dreamlike storytelling that resonates with both the intellect and the imagination.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Bhagwan Das (1869–1958) was an extraordinary Indian polymath, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna awardee.
