ABOUT THE BOOK

Philosophy of the Masters (Volume 2) is a profound exploration of the spiritual tenets of Sant Mat, translated from the original Punjabi work Gurmat Sidhant by Huzur Maharaj Sawan Singh. While the first volume typically introduces the necessity of a spiritual path, Volume 2 dives deeper into the practical and ethical requirements for the seeker. It focuses heavily on the "Quest for God" and the essential role of the Living Master (Satguru) as a guide through the internal spiritual regions. The book serves as a bridge between intellectual understanding and the actual practice of Surat Shabd Yoga—the union of the soul with the divine inner light and sound.

The text is structured to provide a logical and scripture-based defense of mysticism. It addresses the fundamental obstacles of the human condition, particularly the dominance of the mind and the five passions (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and pride). By citing extensively from the Adi Granth, the Bible, and various Sufi saints, Maharaj Sawan Singh demonstrates the universality of the spiritual journey. This volume is particularly valued for its detailed discussion on the nature of "The Word" or Shabd, explaining how this primordial vibration is the only power capable of purifying the mind and leading the soul back to its original home.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Huzur Maharaj Sawan Singh (1858–1948), often referred to as the "Great Master," was the second spiritual head of Radha Soami Satsang Beas. A civil engineer by profession, he brought a unique, analytical precision to his spiritual teachings, making them accessible to both the Eastern and Western mind. During his forty-five years of ministry, he transformed a small spiritual gathering into a global movement, emphasizing that true religion is a personal, internal experience rather than a matter of outward rituals or dogmas. His life was a testament to the balance between worldly duty and spiritual devotion.
