ABOUT THE BOOK
A Text Book of Rogavijnan and Vikritivijnan (Set of 2 Volumes), co-authored by the esteemed academicians Dr. Rekha N. Jain and Dr. Nand Kumar Y. Thite, is a definitive, highly specialized medical textbook published by Chaukhamba Sanskrit Pratishthan. Fully updated to align with the core regulatory curriculum of the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) for BAMS students, this two-volume English set bridges classical Ayurvedic diagnostic principles with modern clinical pathology.
The primary objective of the text is to untangle the intricacies of Rogavijnan (the science of understanding specific diseases) and Vikritivijnan (the science of altered physiological states or pathology). While traditional Ayurvedic treatises often combine pathology, diagnosis, and treatment (Chikitsa) into single massive sections, this book represents a conscious, milestone effort to isolate pathology and diagnostic criteria into an exclusive, structurally distinct study guide. Volume One builds an exhaustive foundational framework, analyzing classical concepts such as the movements of Doshas, Dhatu imbalances, the critical five-fold diagnostic methodology known as Nidanpanchak, and the mechanisms of immunity (Vyadhi-kshamatva) and vital essence (Ojas). Volume Two expands into the clinical manifestation and specific diagnostics of diverse diseases.
Rather than providing a mere literal translation of ancient Sanskrit shlokas into English, the authors successfully map traditional etiopathogenesis alongside modern Western pathological understandings. The book is highly celebrated for its direct, non-scholastic style, integrating color illustrations and clinical comparative analyses that help both Indian and international medical students comprehend how ancient diagnostics operate effectively without modern laboratory instruments.
