ABOUT THE BOOK
Science of Divinity (Brahma Vigyana) is a monumental work in the field of higher Yoga and Vedic metaphysics. Written by the Himalayan master Swami Yogeshwarananda Saraswati, this book is not a mere philosophical treatise but a practical manual for the realization of the Ultimate Reality, or Brahman.
The book serves as a technical guide to Raja Yoga and Jnana Yoga, detailing the subtle process of transcending the material world to experience the divine. It is renowned for its scientific approach to spiritual evolution, breaking down the complex layers of human consciousness into:
- The Five Sheaths (Pancha Koshas): A systematic exploration of the physical, vital, mental, intellectual, and bliss bodies.
- The Three States: Analysis of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, leading toward the fourth state, Turiya.
- Direct Realization: Practical instructions on how to perceive the "Atman" (Self) and its relationship with the "Paramatman" (Supreme Soul).
- Vedic Cosmology: An explanation of the origins of the universe through the lens of ancient Sanskrit texts, supported by the author's own meditative insights.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Swami Yogeshwarananda Saraswati (1887–1985), formerly known as Brahmachari Vyas Dev Ji, was one of the most respected yogis of the 20th century. He spent decades in the high Himalayas, practicing intense austerities and meditation. Unlike many contemporary teachers, Swamiji was known for his "scientific" temperament, often describing spiritual phenomena with the precision of a physicist.
He founded the Yoga Niketan institutions in Rishikesh and Gangotri, where he dedicated his life to teaching the authentic, undiluted science of Yoga. His writings are unique because they are based entirely on his direct personal experiences (Anubhava) in deep Samadhi. Swamiji’s goal was to strip away the superstition often associated with spirituality and present it as a verifiable "Science of the Soul." He is also the author of other acclaimed works like Science of Soul and Science of Vital Force.
