ABOUT THE BOOK
Similarities Between Islam and Christianity is a highly popular comparative religion monograph authored by the internationally prominent Islamic orator and public debater Dr. Zakir Naik, published by the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF). The primary objective of the text is to foster interfaith dialogue and mutual theological understanding by establishing a common scriptural ground between Muslims and Christians, who collectively make up over half of the global population.
Rather than focusing on historical or political differences, Dr. Naik structures his analysis around a strict comparative study of the Bible and the Holy Quran. The core argument relies heavily on the Quranic verse from Surah Ali 'Imran (3:64), which invites the People of the Book to "come to a word that is common between us and you." The author systematically categorizes these commonalities into fundamental theological segments, starting with the concept of monotheism. Dr. Naik cites specific Biblical passages from both the Old and New Testaments—such as the Shema in Deuteronomy 6:4 and Jesus' reaffirmation in Mark 12:29—to demonstrate that original Christian scripture emphasizes the absolute oneness of God, aligning closely with the Islamic concept of Tawheed.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr. Zakir Abdul Karim Naik (born 1965) is an Indian-born Islamic televangelist, comparative religion orator, and medical doctor by training. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Mumbai. In 1991, inspired by the legendary South African comparative religion debater Sheikh Ahmed Deedat, Dr. Naik paused his active medical practice to establish the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) in Mumbai and later founded Peace TV, a multi-lingual satellite channel network.
Dr. Naik is globally recognized for his phenomenal, near-eidetic memory, frequently citing chapters and verses from the Quran, the Bible, the Torah, the Talmud, the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, and the Vedas verbatim during his massive public lectures. His style is characterized by a distinctive analytical approach, utilizing modern scientific facts and Aristotelian logic to explain theological doctrines. Over his decades-long career, he has engaged in high-profile public dialogues with prominent Christian theologians and scientists. In recognition of his international services to Islam, he was awarded Saudi Arabia's highest prestigious civilian honor, the King Faisal International Prize, in 2015. He currently resides as a state guest in Malaysia.
