ABOUT THE BOOK

Song of the Lord is a profound and poetic commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, rendered by the Himalayan master Swami Veda Bharati. Unlike academic or purely analytical translations, this work approaches the Gita as a "Song"—a rhythmic, living vibration of the soul that was sung by Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield of life.

The book is celebrated for several unique perspectives:

  • The Psychology of the Crisis: Swami Veda focuses on Arjuna’s "despair" (Vishada) not as a weakness, but as a necessary spiritual threshold for the descent of divine wisdom.
  • Meditative Insight: Drawing from the Himalayan Tradition of Yoga, the author provides specific insights into the "internal" battlefield, where the senses and the intellect must be harmonized through breath and mindfulness.
  • Universal Application: The commentary transcends religious boundaries, framing the dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna as the universal struggle of the human consciousness seeking clarity amidst chaos.
  • Linguistic Beauty: Having been a child prodigy in Sanskrit, Swami Veda preserves the lyrical flow of the original verses while making the English translation deeply resonant and evocative.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Swami Veda Bharati (1933–2015) was a world-renowned scholar, poet, and spiritual guide. Born as Usharbudh Arya, he was raised in the ancient tradition of the Vedas and was capable of reciting the Patanjali Yoga Sutras from memory by the age of nine. He later earned several academic degrees in the West, including a PhD from the University of Utrecht.

A disciple of the legendary Swami Rama of the Himalayas, Swami Veda served as the spiritual director of the Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama in Rishikesh. He was a bridge between the ancient forest-tradition of the yogis and the modern world of academia and science. His life’s work was dedicated to teaching the "Philosophy of Silence" and the science of meditation, which he believed was the only path to global peace.
