ABOUT THE BOOK
Sri Namastaka is a sublime Sanskrit composition by Srila Rupa Gosvami, consisting of eight (ashtaka) verses dedicated to the Holy Name (Nama). In the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, this text is considered one of the most profound meditations on the "theology of sound."
Rupa Gosvami does not treat the Holy Name merely as a word or a symbol; he addresses the Name as a living, conscious person (Nama-Prabhu). The verses trace the journey of the seeker as they transition from a formal chanting of the Name to experiencing the Name as a divine, ecstatic reality that is non-different from Krishna Himself.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Srila Rupa Gosvami (1489–1564) was the foremost disciple of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He was tasked with establishing the philosophical foundation of the Bhakti movement. His expertise in Sanskrit poetics (Alankara-shastra) is evident in Sri Namastaka, where he uses intricate metaphors to describe the power, sweetness, and mercy of the Holy Name.
