ABOUT THE BOOK
Sri Sri Prema Bhakti Candrika (The Moonbeams of Love Divine) is a seminal text in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition. It is a "Manual of Devotion" composed in Bengali verse that distills the complex theological concepts of the Vrindavan Goswamis into poetic, accessible language.
The title itself, Prema Bhakti Candrika, suggests that the teachings are like soothing moonbeams that illuminate the path of "divine love" (Prema) and cool the burning fire of material existence. It is considered an essential guide for anyone practicing Raganuga Bhakti (spontaneous devotional service).
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura (c. 1544–1611) was a legendary saint and composer who played a pivotal role in the post-Chaitanya era of Vaishnavism. Born a prince, he renounced his kingdom to study under the Goswamis in Vrindavan. He is credited with:
Organizing the famous Kheturi Mahotsava, the first major gathering of Vaishnavas after the disappearance of Sri Chaitanya.
Pioneering the Garanhati style of Kirtan.
Being one of the first to bridge the gap between high Sanskrit theology and Bengali folk devotion.
