ABOUT THE AUTHOR 

Kamala Subramaniam was a renowned Indian author and translator, best known for her renditions of the great Hindu epics, the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Srimad Bhagavatam. Born on October 4, 1916, in Bangalore, India, she was the daughter of eminent Kannada poet T.P. Kailasam. Subramaniam's works are celebrated for their clarity, simplicity, and ability to convey complex emotions and themes.
Her abridged version, published in 1965, is considered a masterpiece, capturing the essence and intensity of the epic.Published in 1979, this work showcases her skill in translating complex Sanskrit texts into lucid English.- Her translation, published in 1981, is notable for its poetic depth and emotional resonance.
