ABOUT THE BOOK
Tantric Yoga and the Wisdom Goddesses is a seminal work by David Frawley (Pandit Vamadeva Shastri) that demystifies the profound system of the Dasha Mahavidyas—the ten "Great Wisdom Goddesses" of the Hindu Tantric tradition. This book is far more than a theoretical study; it serves as a practical bridge between the spiritual discipline of Yoga, the energetic science of Tantra, and the healing system of Ayurveda. Frawley explains that each goddess represents a specific aspect of the cosmic mind and a unique transformative energy that can be harnessed to heal the psyche and awaken higher consciousness.
The text provides a comprehensive look at each goddess—such as Kali (Time), Tara (Word), and Tripura Sundari (Beauty)—offering their respective mantras, meditation forms, and physiological correlations. What sets this book apart is Frawley’s integration of Ayurveda; he explains how these cosmic forces relate to our biological humors (Doshas) and how spiritual practice can balance our life-force (Prana). It is an essential guide for those looking to move beyond "gymnastic" yoga into the deeper, esoteric realms of Vedic spirituality and the worship of the Divine Feminine.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
David Frawley is an American-born Hindu teacher, author, and polymath who has been recognized globally for his contributions to Vedic sciences. He is the founder and director of the American Institute of Vedic Studies and was awarded the Padma Bhushan, one of India's highest civilian honors, for his work in the fields of Yoga, Ayurveda, and Vedic Astrology. Known in India as Pandit Vamadeva Shastri, he is one of the few Westerners to be recognized as a traditional teacher (Vedacharya). His writing is praised for its clarity, depth, and its ability to present ancient Eastern wisdom in a way that is relevant to the modern Western mind without diluting its sacred essence.
