Dr. David Frawley (also known as Pandit Vamadeva Shastri) is one of the world's few Westerners recognized in India as a Vedacharya (teacher of the Vedas). He is the founder of the American Institute of Vedic Studies and has spent over four decades studying and teaching the various branches of Vedic knowledge, including Yoga, Ayurveda, and Vedanta.

In 2015, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award, for his distinguished service to the fields of literature and education.
