ABOUT THE BOOK
This special hardcover edition brings together two of the most significant works of 20th-century literature: the novel The Bell Jar and the poetry collection Ariel.
The Bell Jar: This semi-autobiographical novel follows Esther Greenwood, a brilliant young woman whose descent into clinical depression is chronicled with haunting precision and dark humor. It is a searing critique of 1950s social expectations and a profound exploration of the "glass bell jar" of mental illness.
Ariel: Published posthumously, this collection contains some of Plath’s most famous and visceral poems, including Lady Lazarus and Daddy. Written during a final burst of creative energy, these poems are celebrated for their raw imagery, structural mastery, and fierce emotional honesty.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sylvia Plath (1932–1963) was an American poet and novelist whose work redefined the "Confessional" movement in poetry. A graduate of Smith College and a Fulbright Scholar at Cambridge, Plath was a brilliant academic and a relentless perfectionist. Her life was marked by extreme creative highs and devastating bouts of depression, a struggle that ended in her tragic suicide at the age of 30. Despite her short life, she became a cultural icon; she was the first poet to be posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize (for The Collected Poems in 1982). Her legacy continues to resonate with readers for its unflinching look at female identity, trauma, and the pursuit of artistic excellence.
