ABOUT THE BOOK
The Last Color is a deeply moving novel that explores the intersection of age-old traditions and the human spirit’s resilience. Set in the ancient city of Varanasi, the story follows the unlikely friendship between Chhoti, a spirited nine-year-old tightrope walker, and Noor, a widow living a life of enforced austerity in an ashram. The title refers to the "color" of life and joy that widows were traditionally forbidden from experiencing, particularly during the festival of Holi. Through a narrative filled with empathy, the book tackles themes of caste, gender discrimination, and the transformative power of a promise. It was also adapted into a critically acclaimed feature film directed by the author himself.
