ABOUT THE BOOK
The Yoga of Sri Krishna, authored by the revered spiritual master Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati, is a profound psychological and spiritual commentary on the definitive yoga manual of antiquity: the Bhagavad Gita. Published by the Yoga Publications Trust (Munger, Bihar, India), this volume reframes the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna not as a historical or religious relic, but as an intimate, internal map for the contemporary human mind facing modern existential crises.
Swami Niranjanananda approaches the text through the practical lens of Satyananda Yoga, peeling away dense scholastic dogma to reveal the underlying sadhana (spiritual practice). The core thesis of the book centers on how Sri Krishna systematically introduces Arjuna to a synthesis of yoga systems—specifically Karma Yoga (the yoga of unattached action), Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of emotional transformation), and Jnana Yoga (the yoga of analytical wisdom). Rather than treating these paths as separate, isolated choices, the text demonstrates how Krishna weaves them into a single, unified lifestyle designed to manage the modifications of the mind, master stress, and clear emotional blockages.
The commentary is highly celebrated for its deep psychological clarity. Swami Niranjanananda deconstructs classical concepts such as Dharma (cosmic duty/righteousness), Nishkama Karma (action without desire for fruits), and the nature of the Purushottama (the Supreme Self) into actionable mental attitudes. He positions Sri Krishna as the ultimate archetypal guru and master psychologist who doesn't solve Arjuna’s problems for him, but instead untangles his mental conditioning, allowing Arjuna to access his own innate clarity and inner strength right in the middle of a battlefield.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati (b. 1960) is a globally respected master of yoga, a visionary educator, and the spiritual successor of Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati, the founder of the world-renowned Bihar School of Yoga. Chosen by his guru at a very tender age to lead the institution, Swami Niranjanananda was appointed the President of the Bihar School of Yoga in 1983 and went on to establish the Bihar Yoga Bharati, the first government-accredited university of advanced yogic sciences in the world.
In recognition of his immense, lifelong contributions to the global dissemination of yoga and spiritual literature, the Government of India honored him with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2017. His writing style perfectly mirrors his life: intensely practical, structurally organized, and intellectually rigorous, yet infused with deep compassionate warmth. He possesses a rare ability to translate esoteric, classical Sanskrit algorithms into plain, modern psychological language, making his vast library of authored books indispensable guides for spiritual seekers, university academics, and mental health professionals alike.
