Book Description

About the Author: The author spent over 30 years as a British officer in various jails across eastern India, particularly Bengal. During this time, he interacted closely with condemned and ill political prisoners, as well as numerous leaders. The profound experiences of witnessing the struggles of freedom fighters, the devastation of World War II, and the eventual partition of India deeply impacted this educated and patriotic individual. His account offers fresh insights into our recent political history, revealing the often-overlooked narratives behind well-known events.

Preface

This work is not a typical biography born from self-satisfaction, a common pursuit in old age. Instead, it explores how ordinary people became involved in the freedom struggle. While there are many thrilling stories to share, some have been intentionally omitted. The author recounts his interactions with prominent figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and the rebel leader Sarat Chandra Bose, as well as his encounters with British officials and various factions, all of which left lasting scars.

The narrative highlights the suffering endured in prisons, which was often not by choice. Though all facts presented are true, the author has relied on his memories to record specific conversations from so long ago. He expresses gratitude to Mr. Amiya Kumar Bose and Dr. Sisir Kumar Bose for their assistance in gathering information about Netaji and Sarat Chandra's lives, as well as to Mr. Tarapada Lahiri and Mr. Pran Kumar Das for their contributions to understanding the broader context of revolutionary activities in India, Germany, and America.
